Borders International Store Design Program

When Borders launched in London, Torque was hired to create a whole new
shopping experience through signage, labeling and graphics. After
researching British literary tribes and their expectations of an American
book superstore, we developed a retail identity, a full wayfinding system
and promotional signage that was sensitive to English cultural trends. The
system included thematic displays, section and wayfinding signs, all
totaling more than 75 unique elements.

The London stores have more than won over UK consumers, shooting to the top
five in sales, worldwide. The store identity went on to win critical acclaim
and several awards, and Borders adopted the new signage system as its
international standard.
